Western Wildlands Route

“The 2,700-mile Western Wildlands Route (WWR, formerly known as the Wild West Route) offers bikepackers a non-technical riding experience through the vast expanses of wild and public lands in the Intermountain West. Nearly 70% of the route is on public lands - 18 National Forests, 6 National Parks and Monuments, and 4 areas with Bureau of Land Management National Conservation Lands designation.”, according to Bikepacking Roots. This route took us 12 days, 8 hours, 40 minutes, and 9 seconds of cycling time to cover 4312 km (2679 miles), including 47660 m (156372.46000000002 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 15 km/h (9 mph), reaching a maximum speed of 63 km/h (39 mph) on Saturday, June 1, 2024. During cycling, there was a minimum temperature of 0 °C (32 °F) on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and a maximum temperature of 50 °C (122 °F) on Friday, June 7, 2024.

Great Divide Mountain Bike Route

“The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is Adventure Cycling’s premier off-pavement cycling route, crisscrossing the Continental Divide in southern Canada and the U.S. This route is defined by the word “remote”. Its remoteness equates with spectacular terrain and scenery. The entire route is basically dirt road and mountain-pass riding every day. In total, it has over 200,000 feet of elevation gain. Nearly 2,100 miles of the route is composed of County, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Canadian provincial unpaved roads.”, according to the Adventure Cycling Association.

Today we rode from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, US to Radium, Colorado, US. Sunny weather with clouds, and thunderstorms. Road conditions included gravel roads for most of the day (few kilometer of paved roads). Highlights of the day include seeing some of the rock formations. Riding statistics: on Friday, August 26, 2022, day 26 on the route, it took 11:02h (07:32h moving time), between 7:18 and 6:20, to cover 100.5791 km (62 miles), including 1539 m (5049 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 13.0 km/h (8.1 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 43 km/h (26.7 mph). During this ride the average temperature was 19 °C (66 °F) with a minimum of 8 °C (46 °F) and a maximum of 32 °C (90 °F).

Today we rode from Brush Mountain Lodge, Colorado, US to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, US. Sunny / overcast weather. Road conditions included mainly gravel roads, and jeep tracks. Highlights of the day include Brush Mountain Lodge. Riding statistics: on Thursday, August 25, 2022, day 25 on the route, it took 10:38h (06:12h moving time), between 7:28 and 6:07, to cover 79.04021 km (49 miles), including 1004 m (3294 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 15.0 km/h (9.3 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 51 km/h (31.7 mph). Road conditions included paved roads and gravel roads. Highlights of the day include Brush Mountain Lodge!!. Riding statistics: on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, day 24 on the route, it took 10:38h (06:12h moving time), between 7:28 and 6:07, to cover 115.04163 km (71 miles), including 1695 m (5561 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 14.0 km/h (8.7 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 71 km/h (44.1 mph). During this ride the average temperature was 30 °C (86 °F) with a minimum of 5 °C (41 °F) and a maximum of 43 °C (109 °F).

Day 23: A&M Reservoir

Today we rode from the A&M Reservoir in the Great Basin, Wyoming, US to the Teton Reservoir Campground 16km south of Rawlins, Wyoming, US. Sunny weather with clouds, rain + hail shower in the afternoon. Road conditions were easy today and included a good gravel road but mostly paved roads. Highlights of the day include sunrise at the A&M Reservoir, sunset at the Teton Reservoir, and laundry ;). Riding statistics: on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, day 23 on the route, it took 10:38h (06:12h moving time), between 7:28 and 6:07, to cover 116.73153 km (72 miles), including 696 m (2284 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 19.0 km/h (11.8 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28.0 mph). During this ride the average temperature was 29 °C (84 °F) with a minimum of 15 °C (59 °F) and a maximum of 58 °C (136 °F).

Day 22: Desolate and remote

Today we rode from Atlantic City, Wyoming, US to the A&M Reservoir in the Great Basin, Wyoming, US. Very sunny weather with some clouds (and we appreciated that). Road conditions included different kinds of gravel only. Highlights of the day include the remoteness and large open landscapes. Riding statistics: on Monday, August 22, 2022, day 22 on the route, it took 09:46h (08:00h moving time), between 7:44 and 5:30, to cover 127.13008 km (79 miles), including 1040 m (3412 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 16.0 km/h (9.9 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 52 km/h (32.3 mph). During this ride the average temperature was 29 °C (84 °F) with a minimum of 12 °C (54 °F) and a maximum of 38 °C (100 °F).

Highlights of the day include sleeping in a nice cabin. Riding statistics: on Sunday, August 21, 2022, day 21 on the route, it took 12:18h (09:03h moving time), between 8:10 and 8:29, to cover 141.51888 km (88 miles), including 1304 m (4278 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 16.0 km/h (9.9 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 50 km/h (31.1 mph). Day 20: Union Pass

Today we rode from an informal campground at the base of the climb to Union Pass, Wyoming, US to Pinedale, Wyoming, US. Sunny weather with clouds, thunderstorms/rain in the afternoon. Road conditions were hard steep climbing on rough gravel roads. Highlights of the day were the distant views after climbing the top before Union Pass. Riding statistics: on Saturday, August 20, 2022, day 20 on the route, it took 10:24h (07:18h moving time), between 8:52 and 7:16, to cover 136.75444 km (85 miles), including 1273 m (4177 ft) elevation gain, with an average speed of 15.0 km/h (9.3 mph), while reaching a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28.0 mph). During this ride the average temperature was 21 °C (70 °F) with a minimum of 4 °C (39 °F) and a maximum of 33 °C (91 °F).
